Britax is serious about safety. Britax child car seats are designed to the support the recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatrics, which recommends that children ride in the rear facing
position for at least one year of age and a minimum of 20 pounds to reduce the risk of serious neck and spinal cord injury.
Britax was established in 1939 and they currently have 10 facilities worldwide. And with a crash test facility on site, all cars seats are rigorously tested and perfected before you precious
cargo sits in it.
The Britax Marathon begins with the shell, an exclusively engineered resin that creates a rigid barrier to protect your child’s head and chest with its deep side walls and provides side
impact protection. The seat was designed to hold infants in the rear facing position from 5 to 35 pounds and toddlers up to 65 pounds forward facing.
Layered over the shell is the EPS foam, an energy absorbing padding that is designed to transfer energy away from your child in the event of a car accident. The EPS foam is used in three
locations, head and shoulders to absorb energy and reduce head and torso injury; and in two locations on the seat.
In addition, all convertible and forward facing Britax car seats feature Versa-tether, a patented tether system that is designed to enhance the performance of the car seat by anchoring it to the
vehicle. A second benefit to the Versa-Tether is that it helps indicate when the car seat has been involved in a moderate or severe crash. In the event that the car seat needs to be replaced
following an accident, the red seam on the Versa-Tether will be torn and looked “webbed.”
The built in vehicle belt lock-offs for installation with the vehicles safety belt is another superior safety feature you will find on all Britax convertible car seats. Combined with LATCH system
connectors with a push-button release, these features will ensure the most secure possible installation in your vehicle.
Britax cars seats feature side impact protection since 2002, a time when there was no safety standards implemented for side impacts. So Britax pioneered the way and “cherry
picked” standards from around the world to make the Britax marathon the safest. Now, thanks to Britax, the deep side walls first featured on Britax car seats are becoming commonplace on
all cars seats.
The “HUGS” straps, or Harness Ultra Guard System, are attached to the 5 point harness straps by the chest and are feature raised vertical rubber pieces to grip to your child’s
clothe and reduce forward movement in the event of an accident. Now that the seats are safe, the Marathon has some features for baby’s comfort, such as the comfort foam making the
Marathon a fully-lined seat, plus four adjustable shoulder harness positions for a growing baby; as well as features for mom’s convenience as well, notably the velco belt holders
that keep the harness tangle free. In addition, the seat fabrics are removable and washable. Some additional information to keep in mind:
•Britax Marathon can be used forward facing in the reclined position up to 33 pounds maximum weight. At that time discontinue use of recline.•When seat is used rear facing harness
straps should be positioned at or just below child’s shoulders.•For forward facing straps should be at or just above child’s shoulders.•Discontinue use of your Britax car seat
after 6 years from the date of manufacture (for the Britax Marathon the date of manufacture can be found on the top right (or child’s left) section of the frame where the seat fabric
ends).•If you have installed your Marathon using Latch, discontinue use with Latch and reinstall using the vehicle safety belt for children weighing more than 48 pounds. Unless otherwise
specified by the vehicle manufacturer, assume a 48 pound child is the vehicle LATCH anchor limit.•To ensure that child is securely fastened with harness straps, if you can “pinch”
strap in a loop, pull straps tighter.•Wash seat fabric by hand to ensure that the flame retardant coatings safety is not compromised.
